I have installed an apk file previously and now intend to install another updated apk file to my android phone. However the installation of the new apk file failed with message "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed".
I had tried to uninstall the first apk and then install the new apk file but the installation failed with the same message appeared. My phone is not rooted. Is there any way to rectify the error? Thank you in advance.

I'm trying to install new apk for application that I uploaded on play store. I won't to force Uninstall on users.
When you upload an apk to Google Play you have to sign it with a proper keystore, resulting in a package-certificate pair. If you upload then a version 1. Doing this, downloading the new apk is just an updating, and there is no problem at all. For the system, the app is the same because the certificate and the package are the same. Now, I'm guessing you are launching your debug apk in your device while developing, which by default uses the machine debug certificate.
If you have that debug apk installed when trying to download the deployed version from Google Play, the system needs you to uninstall the previous one, as they are not the same app different certificate and the conflict exists.

That's only a guessing, but give it a try. Just in the unlikly case that there is an error in the device system, try in another one and check that the error remains. If the problem is still there, then check stackoverflow. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google.

So before installing the application, follow the following steps: Go to Settings of your phone and look for an option that lists all applications in your phone and try to find whether the application that you are trying to install is already listed.
If it is, then uninstall it from there. Usually uninstalling by following step 1 removes the application from your phone however, if you are using a tablet, sometimes Android still keeps the APK file in the downloaded directory.
The user try to install app second time with different version it's giving "APP not installed an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed" like this but same version it's not coming like this. I want to install app without uninstalling means user don't want to do uninstall previous one without using play store and one more doubt when this signature will generates.
See what happens: most probably you'd compiled a DEBUG version of app and distributed it your own way.
And most probably you'd lost your previous debug certificate 4ever depends how this happens. The certificate itself stands for a unique fingerprint and each debug or release certificate has its own unique fingerprint. That fingerprint is the signature Android talking about. Every apk is signed using certificate and has its signature, its mandatory.
The right scenario is to create a release certificate key store and to sign you app with it and then distribute app any way you want. This way you should also save your release certificate and reuse it later to sign any upcoming updates.
As for now you should restore your certificate you'd signed your apk with or the only way your users has now is to uninstall and then install. Harsha Vardhan is right, You should first clean project and then use same signature with installed apk. I think solution is need to generate apk file from same sdk. I am not sure why that just happened. But that's happened to me one time also.My app was already on Google Play Store and now after making some changes in the app e. Database, UI or some bug fixes etc. I want to update the app version with the same package and Key-store file. But when I tried to test the app in a scenario: from old app to new app upgrade without uninstalling the old app.
I tried to find out the reason why this is happening. After doing some experiment with Key-store file and all, the reason was:. So the wrong thing was happening is an app which is already installed was a derived app Google play store not an original APK which we have uploaded on Google Play store and we are trying to override that derived APK with the original APK which was making the issue. To let everything work fine, what I have done is: I have uploaded new signed released APK in the internal test mode on the Google Play Store and give tester access to my account to test the app update scenario and in this way, it was working like a charm… no more issue.
There is nothing wrong, we have now only one option to test the app migration from old to new using internal test or alpha or the beta environment. B Reason for this error can be if the same app has installed for multiple users in the same device and did not properly uninstalled for all the users and if you try to install it again then you will face the same error.
Then, open the overflow menu 3 vertical dotsand choose to Uninstall for all users. How I face and resolve this issue: My app was already on Google Play Store and now after making some changes in the app e. So for this what you have to do is?
Go to settings-lock screen and security-and scroll till you see secure start up. If it's on disable it. Restart your phone and try to install again.
